New Braunfels community.
(SAN ANTONIO, June 12, 2006) South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) announced today that it has established a permanent site for blood collection in New Braunfels. The new donor room is located in the New Braunfels Marketplace, 651 N. IH 35,Suite #830. The city of New Braunfels was chosen as an expansion site because of the large number of donors that live in the city and surrounding counties.
The site will open to start collecting blood donations on Monday, June 19th at 8:30 a.m. The official grand opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at 10:00 a.m.
Bill Reed, Vice President of Community Resources for the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center, says, “We are very excited about the prospects of this new donor center. The convenience of this location will enable our donors in Comal and neighboring counties to participate more actively in this lifesaving mission. The impact of a permanent local donor center will be tremendous.”
Dr. Norman D. Kalmin, President/CEO and Medical Director notes, “The growing medical facilities in South Texas places greater demands on STBTC to provide blood components. We expect a 7.5% increase in blood collections in 2006. Establishing this donor room will help us move forward to accomplish the goal of providing for patients throughout our service area.” He adds, “Our services are integral to the health care community and we are proud of the lifesaving capabilities we are able to share.”
The residents of this community have long been ardent supporters of the blood donation program. Each week, numerous mobile drives are held throughout the hill country area.
