Key Leadership Positions Announced at South Texas Blood & Tissue Center and QualTex Laboratories
SAN ANTONIO (September 19, 2011) — The Board of Directors for South Texas Blood & Tissue Center (STBTC) announced new executive roles for two long time leaders within the independent not-for-profit agency, and its QualTex Laboratories affiliate, according to Board Chairman Dennis Stahl.
The Center serves the blood needs for more than 100 hospitals and clinics in 43 South Texas counties, operates a certified tissue bank, houses the Texas Cord Blood Bank and also serves as a National Marrow Donor Program registration site. Its affiliate, QualTex Laboratories, is the nation’s largest independent nonprofit testing laboratory for blood and plasma products.
Mary Beth Fisk has been appointed as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) for South Texas Blood & Tissue Center. Fisk has served successfully as Interim President/COO since April 2011. Over her career with the Center, she has been instrumental in forming the Texas Cord Blood Bank and managing the Tissue Services and Be the Match registry program. Fisk has helped drive innovation for the formation of GenCure, a new arm of STBTC that will focus on providing cell and tissue services for regenerative medicine researchers and patient treatments around the world. Fisk will also continue to serve as the Executive Director of The Blood & Tissue Center Foundation.
Linda Myers has been promoted to President/COO for QualTex Laboratories. QualTex Laboratories provides blood and plasma testing services for clients worldwide. In 2010, QualTex tested 7.5 million samples and continues to develop critical testing services for biological products. Myers has been with the Center for 17 years and helped implement ongoing research and development projects, which have enhanced the image of QualTex as a premier research and testing facility.
“The Board has great confidence in the executive staff at both South Texas Blood & Tissue Center and our QualTex Laboratories affiliate,” Stahl said. “Both of these talented professionals share the vision to help STBTC and QualTex reach their full potential. With their commitment and expertise, the Board is confident the organization will continue to prosper. We are a unique nonprofit which has a diversity of services that have given San Antonio a solid position in the global marketplace for blood, tissues and cell services.”
