Born at a premature 24 weeks, Seth Mendez weighed only 1 pound, 7 ounces. “His arms were so tiny, they fit inside my husband’s wedding ring.”Since his mother’s health was in crisis, the baby had to be delivered early by caesarian section.

Excellent medical care and series of blood transfusions saved little Seth, and he is growing every day. Seth spent three months in the hospital and underwent surgery. He is now growing rapidly and playing with his older brother and sister.

Sandra Mendez, his mother, is grateful to the donors who cared enough to give the blood that saved her son. She has been a blood donor herself since high school and continues to give. She always believed blood should be available for anyone who needed it. She says, “Little did I know that my baby would need blood transfusions to save his life.”
